about

Here is the online version of a CD published by Atelier Hui-Kan and Taoshan Elementary School, in 2010, in Taiwan.

~  This CD isn't an ethnographical publication which documents a musical tradition. It is certainly not an album of World Music, where Western-style musicians and studio production integrate so-called tribal melodies and rhythm. This is a sound travel in Taoshan. This is the result of a work of "Art and community" led by artists Yannick Dauby and Wan-Shuen Tsai who engaged a dialogue with the people of Taoshan area, near Wufeng in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. They spent six months collaborating with Taoshan Elementary School for creating a work which could reflects some aspect of the life in this village. This artwork is mainly based in classes which were held with the children and led them to renew their ideas on sound, environment and music. We hope this publication can become a tool for continuing the pedagogic work as well as an invitation to listen some of the specificities of the Atayal culture and Taiwan's nature. ~
